INTRODUCTION

Appetites can be overwhelming, to the point of controlling. To what lengths will you go to satisfy an appetite?

DISCUSSION QUESTIONS

  1. What is the craziest thing you've done to satisfy an appetite?

  2. How do you determine when satisfying an appetite is healthy or unhealthy?

  3. Read Genesis 25:29-33. Why do some appetites seem so overwhelming in the heat of the moment?

  4. What are some ways you've justified feeding your appetite?

  5. Read Hebrews 12:1-3. How did Jesus deal with his appetites?

  6. How do we guard ourselves from sacrificing future rewards for "just a bowl of stew"?


MOVING FORWARD

Whether they are dieting decisions, financial decisions, or relational decisions, satisfying some appetites means sacrificing short-term pleasures in order to secure long-term gains. Unfortunately, appetites can be so powerful that they can cause you to lose perspective. Framing these immediate decisions in the context of long-term goals can keep you from sacrificing your future for "just a bowl of stew."
