INTRODUCTION

Your character, or your interior life, affects your relationships and responsibilities in this life. For example, if your interior is a mess, then the rest of your life is affected negatively. While there are built-in systems to measure how you're doing in your relationships and responsibilities, how do you measure your interior life? Who's walking alongside you to help you pay attention to your character?

DISCUSSION QUESTIONS

  1. How do you know if you're doing well with your relationships? How do you know if you're doing well in your responsibilities (i.e. school, job)? How do you know if you're doing well in developing your character?

  2. In what ways does our culture promote or not promote the idea of developing our interior life?

  3. Read Hebrews 10:24-25. The writer of these verses assumes that his readers have been regularly meeting together? Is the idea of "doing life together" a familiar or foreign concept in your experience?

  4. Who are the people who would celebrate alongside you if you were to accomplish a major life milestone (i.e. graduation, job promotion, childbirth)? Are they the same people who would stand beside you during a major spiritual/character milestone or a major life crisis?

  5. How intentional are you about developing your character? What steps, if any, have you taken to pay attention to your interior life?

  6. What might keep you from engaging fully in a group committed to doing life together?

THINK ABOUT IT

The temptation is to categorize our interior life as "personal and off-limits"; and as a result, our character gets neglected at the expense of fulfilling our relational development and professional responsibilities. Are you willing to give some time and attention to your character development?

WHAT WILL YOU DO?

This week, take a step and join a small group or community group.

CHANGING YOUR MIND

And let us consider how we may spur one another on toward love and good deeds, not giving up meeting together, as some are in the habit of doing, but encouraging one another - and all the more as you see the Day approaching.
