INTRODUCTION

Two thousand years ago Jesus lived and walked upon the earth. And despite the fact that he was the most powerful person in the universe, he never played the God card. He never asserted the rights that were inherently his. Instead he did something completely different, and in doing so left us the ultimate example of what powerful people are to do with their power.

DISCUSSION QUESTIONS

  1. Who do you know that exemplifies humility?

  2. Read Philippians 2:3-4. Are you able to do this? Whose interests do you put before your own? Who do you have a hard time considering better than yourself?

  3. Read Philippians 2:5-11. What can we learn from Christ's example?

  4. How did Christ couple extraordinary humility with extraordinary power?

  5. What is the result of coupling extraordinary humility with extraordinary power?

  6. How can you couple humility with power? How will you follow the script that Jesus left for us?

THINK ABOUT IT

When he came, if Jesus would have held on to his rights, he would have gotten what he deserved and we would have gotten what we deserved. Instead, he laid down his right--and his life--and as a result we have what we could have never earned, the opportunity to have new life forever with God. Have you come to a point where you have fully embraced this offer of grace?

WHAT WILL YOU DO?

Jesus came and laid down his power. What do you plan to do with your power?

CHANGING YOUR MIND

Your attitude should be the same as that of Christ Jesus: Who, being in very nature God, did not consider equality with God something to be grasped, but made himself nothing, taking the very nature of a servant, being made in human likeness. Philippians 2:5-7
