INTRODUCTION

There is a story in the Old Testament that is striking in its depiction of society at its worst and in its depiction of how God dealt with it. It is the story of Sodom and Gomorrah. A story that is disturbing in some of its details and yet reveals one of God's values--a value that helps to explain your unique role at work, in your neighborhood, and in this nation.

DISCUSSION QUESTIONS

  1. Read Genesis 18:17-22. Do you feel as though God sees everything that goes on? What are the things it seems like God turns a blind eye to?

  2. Read Genesis 18:23-33. What if this was the way God operates--that for a few righteous people he would spare the rest? What if the presence of good--even a little good--causes God to show mercy and restraint on the unrighteous? What would be the implications of this?

  3. Read 2 Peter 3:9. What is the reason for God's patience in holding back his judgment?

  4. Read Genesis 19:1-26. God will not withhold his judgment forever. How does this make you feel?

  5. What could God's purpose be for you where you are? How could you be a part of his desire that none should perish but all should come to repentance?

THINK ABOUT IT

What if when God looks at your fraternity, company, neighborhood, team, and family and sees you, he thinks there is hope for your fraternity, company, neighborhood, team, and family? What if when we think, "God, why don't you do something?" He thinks, "Why don't you do something? Why do you think I'm holding off? Why do you think you are on location?"

WHAT WILL YOU DO?

What difference can you make this week on location?

CHANGING YOUR MIND

The Lord is not slow in keeping his promise, as some understand slowness. He is patient with you, not wanting anyone to perish, but everyone to come to repentance. 2 Peter 3:9
